Ultimately, I'm a natural problem-solver with a knack for making connections. I don't just point out issues - I also come up with solutions. I don't just get projects done, I also affect change when needed. By researching and identifying multiple perspectives as well as encouraging everyone involved in a project to brainstorm for solutions, we can create a better experience for everyone.
I started my design career as a graphic designer, first working in publishing in New York at Routledge and Town & Country Magazine and then later in a variety of industries including a telecom and electronics retailer CompUSA in Dallas.
After a decade in design and earning an MA in Art History and graduate coursework in Library & Information Sciences, I then pursued a path that integrated all of my interests from art and fashion exhibitions to UX design strategy. Additionally, I realized how much I love presenting my research about identity and culture at academic conferences across the US and abroad and teaching design to undergraduates and early career designers.
I’ve since grown my career to include projects spanning industries and countries. My human-centered design thinking career has included working with product owners, developers, UX/UI designers, writers, metadata specialists, project managers, and business analysts. I have managed small strategy teams to large enterprise design delivery teams.
My journey has taken me from Dallas to New York, Houston, and abroad. I was even lucky enough to live in Helsinki, Finland working for a Finnish startup to help grow an online virtual world for kids. My favorite experiences however are when I am a catalyst for change and transformation beyond just design, and I particularly enjoy finding ways to collaborate and develop strategic partnerships. Working across so many industries, I have also become a thought leader in a variety of areas such as fair use and intellectual property law, space planning for building construction, and developing entrepreneurial programming for artists. And while I’ve been working for a global technology consulting firm, I’ve grown my business process, analysis, and development skills with Scrum Product Owner courses and SAFe Agile certification.
In my spare time, I get involved with community and civic engagement by volunteering and serving non-profit art and design organizations. Pre-covid, I have served on the Board of The McKinney Avenue Contemporary (a non-collecting art museum), served as a member of the Advisory Committee of The Design Society (an extension of The Dallas Architecture Forum), and was a long-time volunteer of The Kitchen Dog Theater. Like most people, although I love to travel and have visited dozens of countries, I have stayed closer to home now and have brought the world to me - my husband and I are currently hosting foreign exchange students from Germany and Spain and are loving every minute of the experience so far!
